The Crux
The doctor said some of the worst words anyone wants to hear, “You have an autoimmune disease and it’s incurable.” What they were telling me was that I would have chronic pain 24/7 for the rest of my life. I was 23. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and I didn’t believe what I heard. On a day soon after, I remember clearly saying to myself, “I will get better and I’ll do whatever it takes.” It was that statement that transformed my life.
Soon after, my nurse practitioner recommended checking out yoga.
I remember my first yoga class, an Ashtanga class at Sound, Mind, and Body in Seattle, WA, in 1997. I was a second behind everyone else during the flow and looked around the whole time trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. I don’t remember how I felt in the poses or how I made it through the class (at the time, my health was so compromised I could only exercise for about twenty minutes a session), what I do remember was my amazement at the end that I had fully participated in an hour class and the feeling I experienced in the relaxation pose at the end that the teacher called “savasana.” I had never experienced anything like it and was determined to feel that way again.
Since that time, I practiced many styles of yoga, primarily CorePower Yoga, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara, and Jivamukti. I listened to anyone that would share what worked for them in their healing. I completely changed my diet, completed multiple cleanses, started learning about food and nutrition, did acupuncture/acupressure, chiropractic work, and therapy – all of which helped my symptoms immensely. I challenged every belief system I ever had and started shedding what didn’t serve me. Most importantly, I healed old emotional trauma slowly and surely.
One day I was sitting in Organic Oasis in Anchorage, Alaska, having dinner and something synchronistic happened as it does so often in my life when I set a strong intention and am open to listening and receiving. A complete stranger sat down at my table and said he felt he needed to talk to me. Soon I was sharing the story of my illness and he gave me the name of a naturopath that I needed to see who did a technique called Bioset/NAET. At the time, I was cleansing and watching what I was eating very closely and doing yoga, and I added this allergy/emotional clearing work. Within four months, I had no symptoms and have not for nine years.
Living Yoga Now
All of these healing modalities – yoga, cleansing, nutrition, and other modalities – were key elements of my path of healing.
As I felt better, I continued my path with yoga and nutrition – eventually completing Level 1 and 2 of CorePower Yoga’s Teacher Training, acting as a Studio Manager and then Regional Manager for CorePower Yoga and directing multiple Teacher Trainings and co-leading the Nutrition Program. Currently, I teach at CorePower Yoga in the Denver/Boulder area and lead independent workshops, retreats, and cleanse programs.
As a result of my experiences, I dedicate my life to sharing my knowledge through experience and empowering you to heal and Grow Your Own Way.

Our cleanse programs and retreats are the perfect opportunity to make a greater commitment to your vision for your life within a community that supports you.
